### What's a Temporary Channel? <a href="#whats-a-temporary-channel" id="whats-a-temporary-channel"></a>

It’s a voice channel — but with a catch: it only exists as long as someone is using it.

### What can I do with a Temporary Channel?

As the user who joined a **Creator Channel**, you become the owner of the temporary channel.

As the owner, you can customize and moderate the channel using the [/voice](/commands/voice) commands or an [Interface Message](/commands/interface-message).

## ➕ Creator Channel

A voice channel that creates a temporary channel when you join it. You can set up multiple Creators by repeating the steps above. Each Creator has its own configuration for creating temporary channels.

## ✨ Interface Message

A text channel in which the bot sends an [interface](/commands/interface-message) which is an alternative to the [/voice](/commands/voice) commands and used to customize a temporary channel.

# Interface Message

After you create a temporary channel, you are the owner of that channel and can change the properties of your channel and manage users through an interface. With an interface you simply click buttons.

After you create a temporary channel, you are the owner of that channel and can use this command to change the properties of your channel and manage users.

# trust

Add a user to your trust list and give them access to join and view your temporary channel, even if you have locked or hidden it.

Remove a user from your trusted list and they will only be able to join your temporary channel when it is open.

# block

Add a user to your block list and prevent them from joining your temporary channel.

# kick

Disconnect a user out of your temporary channel.

# invite

Invite a user directly into your temporary channel.

# bitrate

You can change the audio quality of your temporary channel by changing the bitrate. This change will be reset when you recreate your temporary channel.

# claim

If the owner leaves their own temporary channel, another user can take control. This will transfer the ownership, and the settings of the new owner will be applied.

Forcibly deletes your temporary channel, even if there are still users in the channel.

Get an overview of your temporary channel.

# invite

Looking for users to join your channel? With this command you can easily send a message to a channel with personalized message and invite link.

# limit

Change the limit of your temporary channel to allow only a certain number of users inside.

This overwrites the default [Temporary Channel User Limit](/settings/overview/limit). The changed user limit will be saved and applied to the next temporary channel the user creates.


# name

Change the name of your temporary channel. Select a name to be recognized.

# password

Set a password that allows users with /join to enter your locked temporary.

# privacy

Change the privacy of your temporary channel to Locked or Hidden if you need more privacy and want to keep strangers out. Choose who can join using /voice user trust.

Change the region of your temporary channel if you are having voice connection issues to Discord.

# reset

Reset your temporary channel if you need to restart. Channel name, limit trust/block list will be set to default.

Create a temporary thread if you want a dedicated channel for texting with users of your temporary channel. This thread will be deleted when your channel is empty.

# transfer

Transfer ownership of your temporary channel if you no longer wish to moderate the channel. Properties such as channel name, limit, trust/blacklist will be applied by the new owner.

You may have had this problem before. You and your friend are on a large server with many channels, but you can't find your friend. This way you can find him without having to search.

If you have received a password from a friend and now want to join their temporary channel, you must enter the password with this command.

# Overview


# Temporary Channel Name

Set the default naming format for temporary channels when they are created.

This default channel name can be changed by the temporary channel owner with [/voice name](/commands/voice/name) or an [Interface Message](/commands/interface-message). As soon as the user creates a new temporary channel, the previous name will be used.

### Don’t want channels keep their name after recreation?

# Temporary Channel User Limit

Set the default user limit for temporary channels when they are created.

This default channel user limit can be changed by the temporary channel owner with [/voice limit](/commands/voice/limit) or an [Interface Message](/commands/interface-message). As soon as the user creates a new temporary channel, the previous user limit will be used.

## User Limit Range <a href="#range" id="range"></a>

The owner of a temporary channel will only be able to set a user limit that is within the range that you have selected.


# Temporary Channel Category

Choose the category where temporary channels will be created.

## Fallback Categories <a href="#fallbacks" id="fallbacks"></a>

A Discord category is limited to 50 channels. If your Discord server needs more temporary channels, you have to set up some fallback categories.

1. Click the `+` button.

2. Select all categories you want to use in case another category is full. Make sure these categories have no permissions set to avoid any permission issues.

# Temporary Channel Bitrate

Choose the audio bitrate for temporary voice channels. Higher values improve quality but may be limited by your server’s boost level.

This default channel bitrate can be changed by the temporary channel owner with [/voice bitrate](/commands/voice/bitrate).&#x20;

### Don’t want users to change the bitrate?

Disable it under [Toggle Features](/settings/moderation/features).

# Temporary Channel Position

Set where the temporary channel will be created in relation to the Creator Channel the user joins.

Select roles that are required to see or access temporary channels, overriding the default @everyone permission.

# Temporary Channel Privacy Mode

Choose whether temporary channels are public, locked, or hidden from other users by default.

This default channel privacy can be changed by the temporary channel owner with [/voice privacy](/commands/voice/privacy) or an [Interface Message](/commands/interface-message). As soon as the user creates a new temporary channel, the previous privacy mode will be used.

# Temporary Channel Owner Permission

Grant owners of temporary channels extra permissions (e.g., Manage Channel, Move Members) while they are in control of the channel.

Choose which features temporary channel owners are allowed to use while they are in control of the channel.

A feature can be completely disabled, available to @everyone or only certain roles (premium).

Disabling certain features, such as renaming voice channels, disables the corresponding command and resets a user's configuration back to the creator channel's default.

Visit <https://discord.com/developers/applications>, login with your Discord account and click on **New Application**.

Go to the **Bot** tab, scroll down to **Authorization Flow** and enable **Presence Intent** and **Server Members Intent**.

# How to prevent @everyone access to temporary channels?

If your Discord server has a verification system and you want to prevent @everyone from using temporary channels.

## Define your **Member Roles**

[Dashboard](https://tempvoice.xyz/dashboard) -> Select your Discord server -> Select the **correct** Creator Channel -> Permissions Tab -> Temporary Channel Access Roles

After you defined your roles, a newly created temporary channel will set the permission of those roles by default for `Connect` and `View Channels` to <img src="/files/9QWgU65O31toowV1R5aB" alt="" data-size="line">.

On the other side the permission of `@everyone` for `View Channels` will be set to <img src="/files/BXus67z5kOMCxkaebetW" alt="" data-size="line">. This prevents users without one of those roles to use temporary channels.


# How to sync permissions to temporary channels?

Sync permissions from the creator or category to apply custom permissions to temporary channels.


# How to give my team access to all channels?

You should also make sure that users with that role are not able to create own temporary channels.

# How to change the language for TempVoice?

TempVoice is translated into over 25 languages by native speakers. Simply change the language to make it easier for your users to understand the bot.

# How to disable the "Push to Talk" popup?

This is caused because you miss "Use Voice Activity" permission.

## Open your server settings

1. Go to `Default permissions` for `@everyone`

# Why some users get ignored/skipped?

Sometimes you'll select a user on a command and TempVoice won't act on them. Instead of silently doing nothing, the bot tells you exactly who was skipped and why.

This happens because every action on a temporary voice channel like inviting, trusting, blocking, disconnecting or transferring ownership, runs a few checks against each selected user first. Some checks protect you (you can't invite yourself), some protect the server (moderators can't be blocked out of a channel), and some simply reflect what Discord allows (bots can't receive invites).

When you select several users at once, the checks run per user: everyone who passes is handled normally, and only those who fail are listed back to you. The reasons below explain each one.

## Is you <a href="#you" id="you"></a>

The selected user is the person running the command. You can't invite, trust, block, kick or transfer ownership to yourself, so you are always skipped. Raised by: every target-based action.

## Is a bot <a href="#bot" id="bot"></a>

The selected user is a bot account. Bots can't accept invites, receive DMs, or be granted trust, so they are excluded from member selections. Raised by: invite, trust, block, transfer.

## Is a moderator <a href="#moderator" id="moderator"></a>

The selected user holds a server permission that makes them immune to channel moderation (Ban Members, Kick Members or Timeout Members). Moderators can't be blocked or disconnected from a temporary voice channel. Raised by: block, kick/disconnect.

## Has not accepted the server rules <a href="#rules" id="rules"></a>

The selected user is still in Discord's membership screening ("pending") state. Until they accept the rules they aren't a full member and can't be invited or trusted. Raised by: invite, trust.

## Has no access role <a href="#role" id="role"></a>

The server has restricted temporary voice channels to specific [access roles](/settings/permissions/access-roles), and the selected user has none of them. Giving them access would contradict the creator's role restriction, so they are skipped. If no access roles are configured, everyone passes this check. Raised by: invite, trust.

## Is not in this voice channel <a href="#voice" id="voice"></a>

The selected user isn't currently connected to your temporary voice channel. Actions that operate on connected members (like disconnecting someone) have nothing to act on. Raised by: kick/disconnect.

## Could not be found <a href="#not-found" id="not-found"></a>

Discord did not return usable data for the selected user; they most likely left the server or the selection expired. Reopen the menu and select the user again. Raised by: every target-based action, as the fallback.


# What are the limitations for TempVoice?

TempVoice itself can create unlimited temporary voice channels, there's no premium paywall on our side. However, Discord's platform has its own hard limits that apply to any bot or server.

## Discord Server

* **500 channels per server** — A Discord server can have a maximum of 500 channels in total (text, voice, and categories combined). Once this limit is reached, no new channels can be created until existing ones are removed.
* **50 channels per category** — Each category can hold up to 50 channels. If the category for temporary voice channels is full, you'll need to configure [**fallback categories**](/settings/overview/category#fallbacks), which will used to place the new temporary channels.

## Discord API

* **2,000 channels per day** — Discord also limits channel *creation*, not just how many can exist at once. A server can have a maximum of **2,000 new channels created per rolling 24-hour period**, shared across **all bots and users combined**. On very active servers, this can becomes an issue. [Learn more about Ratelimits](/troubleshooting/tempvoice-not-working#ratelimit).
* **Rename every 5 minutes** — You can only rename your channel once every 5 minutes. This is because Discord only allows **2 channel updates per 10 minutes**. Keep in mind: if you're using the [`{PRIVACY}`](/help/placeholders/privacy) placeholder in your channel name, changing your privacy with [/voice privacy](/commands/voice/privacy) also triggers a rename, so it's affected by this same 5-minute cooldown.

## TempVoice

* **25 trusted/blocked users per channel** — When you trust or block a user, TempVoice adds a permission overwrite to your channel. Based on experience, too many overwrites slow down API requests. If you need to block more than 25 users, we recommend **locking your channel** with [/voice privacy](/commands/voice/privacy) and using a waiting room with [/voice waiting](/commands/voice/waiting).
* **2 Creator Channels on the Free plan** — The Free plan lets you set up **2 Creator Channel** at no cost. If your server needs more than that, you'll need [**TempVoice Premium**](https://tempvoice.xyz/premium) to setup unlimited.

Unlike other bots, TempVoice puts almost no essential features behind a paywall, there's no limit on how many temporary channels or interfaces you can create, regardless of your plan.

# Can my Discord partner with TempVoice for free premium?

We appreciate the interest, but the short answer is no. TempVoice doesn't offer partnerships in exchange for free Premium.

Here's why:

* **Advertisement has no value to us.** We don't accept shoutouts or server promotion in exchange for Premium, it provides no meaningful benefit to the project.
* **We don't partner with any Discord servers**, regardless of size. This isn't a threshold you can reach, partnerships simply aren't something we offer.
* **If TempVoice is genuinely valuable to your server**, that's actually a reason to subscribe rather than a reason to expect it for free. A bot that provides real value to your community is worth supporting financially.

We know this isn't the answer everyone hopes for. In the past, we tried partnerships and they didn't work out well for us, we didn't see any real benefit, only downsides.

Because of that, we'd rather be upfront and say no from the start than lead anyone on. Thanks for understanding.


# TempVoice not working

TempVoice needs to be online and have all required permissions to be functional.

## Check your DMs <a href="#turn-on-your-dms-and-do-not-block-tempvoice" id="turn-on-your-dms-and-do-not-block-tempvoice"></a>

TempVoice sends you a notification when there was an error creating a temporary channel. Make sure you have DMs enabled and didn't blocked TempVoice.

## Ratelimit

Most Discord servers have a limit of 2,000 channel creations per 24 hours, which applies to all bots. Once this global limit has been reached, no bot can create any more channels until the limit is reset. This limitation is imposed by Discord and we cannot prevent or increase it.

Very active communities should not rely entirely on temporary channels. Provide enough casual voice channels at the top of your server as a first choice so that users might prefer not to use a temporary channel for a quick call.

As this limit applies to all bots, it is advisable to avoid using bots that create channels, such as ticket bots. As an alternative, you can use forum channels or modmail bots.

It's also recommended to lock temporary channel creation behind a role with some requirements (level, time, etc).

This can help prevent your community from reaching the total limit for creating channels.

# Empty temporary channels

Temporary channels can only be deleted when TempVoice is online and has all required permissions.

2. Only if 1. does not work, try to manually delete the channel
